We’ve been to Golden Spike National Historical Park many times throughout the years. We’ve taken lots of our family members there too. Sometimes, I forget how cool it is that the East met the West right here in Utah.
Golden Spike holds re-enactments through the summer months and they are totally worth waiting in the sun for. Watching the Jupiter and Union Pacific 119 came down the track is AMAZING.
The sheer power and craftsmanship of the locomotives is something you don't see much anymore.
While there is no shade out by the locomotives, there's plenty of it in a covered pavilion area. We’ve had many picnics there.
To make the most out of your visit, try to visit during a special event there. We visited during the 150th-anniversary festival and there were plenty of activities for everyone!
We were able to watch the reenactment plus ride some trains, throw some cow pies, and chuck firewood into a pretend locomotive boiler.
