We’ve been traveling Utah extensively for the past 6 years and it still amazes me how much there is that we haven’t visited, or even heard of!
Ruin Arch is a relatively easy hike if you just want to view it from below.
If you want to be in the arch, that requires a bit more of a scramble.
Our 6 and 7-year-old kids did it easily enough with supervision.
Once you're at the top, there are amazing views, crazy rock formations, and even some petroglyphs.
Originally, we came just to see ruin arch. When we arrived, we were more than pleasantly surprised to see a tunnel right in front of us...who doesn’t love a good tunnel?
The tunnels were commissioned by the U.S. military, but it's a bit of a mystery as to why. Most say they were testing the strength of the sandstone to see if they could make an underground facility, but nobody is 100% sure.
It didn’t take long to walk to the end of the tunnel, but you’ll need a flashlight as it is quite dark and the ground is uneven.
Our kids found some old mining tracks in the sand.
If you're in the area, the Morrison Knudson Tunnels are a quick add-on to Ruin Arch that’s totally worth it.
